Adis Abeba jest miastem, które dźwiękowo nie śpi. Jej ulice niemal bez przerwy wypełnione są odgłosami związanymi z funkcjonowaniem dużej metropolii (ruch samochodowy, wszechobecnym gwar). Krzyki handlarzy, hodowców zwierząt, drobnych przewoźników i innych grup zawodowych można usłyszeć od rana do późnej nocy. Tak jak odgłosy etiopskiej muzyki, którą charakteryzuje szybki, wyraźnie ukonstytuowany perkusyjny rytm oraz wesoła melodia. Tu czas (w przeciwieństwie do wielu miast europejskich) spędza się na ulicy a nie w zamkniętych domach. Pracuje, je, rozmawia po prostu żyje na ulicy a pory roku i dnia wyznaczane są przez rytm funkcjonującego miasta. Zewsząd słychać tu wiele rożnych języków oraz odmiennych form religijnej aktywności. Głos modlącego się w oddali Muezzina, chrześcijańskich pieśni śpiewanych na żywo w kościele, czy puszczanych z głośników w ciągu dnia, to wszystko przypomina o otwartości i tolerancji Etiopczyków, umiejętności funkcjonowania we wzajemnej symbiozie, ponad religią i polityką.

Addis Abeba is a city that does not sleep soundwise. Its streets are almost constantly filled with the sounds associated with the operation of a large metropolitan area (traffic, omnipresent hum). Screaming traders, animal breeders, small vehicle drivers and other professional groups can be heard from the early morning until late at night. Just like the sounds of Ethiopian music, which is characterized by fast, clearly constituted drum rhythm and cheerful melody. Here the time (in contrast to many European cities) is spent in the streets rather than in closed houses. Working, talking, simply living takes place in the streets and the time of the year and the day are determined by the rhythm of the functioning of the city. Everywhere you can hear many different languages and different forms of religious activity. The voice Muezzin praying in the distance, Christian songs sung live in the church or played from the speakers during the day, it's all reminiscent of the openness and tolerance of Ethiopians, their ability to function in mutual symbiosis over religion and politics.
